Literature regarding the pharmacy practice of pharmacy students around their family members was limited, hence this study was conducted. The objective of this study was to determine the extent to which pharmacy students are involved in managing the medical-related issues within their own families. The mode of assessment was done using a KAP survey. A Prospective, Cross-sectional study was adopted and a community-based online survey was conducted. Google forms were used as a means for generating responses. A total of 740 respondents were received via Google forms. One-way ANOVA was used to inspect the KAP data for various pharmacy departments. The p-value was observed to be p<0.05, implying a significant difference across the departments. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was calculated and used to determine the connection between the study variables and the correlation in this study showed a weak positive correlation between knowledge-attitude, knowledge-practice, and a moderate positive correlation between attitude-practice. On analyzing the results, it was found that Pharm.D students showed a better response in terms of knowledge and M.pharmacy students showed a better response in terms of attitude and practice. The elderly population is the highest consumer of drugs so a high degree of care is required while prescribing certain drugs to this vulnerable group. Certain drugs are classified as potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) for the elderly because they carry increased risk of adverse drug events in the patient group. The aim of the study was to evaluate the use of potentially inappropriate drugs in geriatrics in a tertiary care teaching hospital. A prospective observational study was conducted for a period of six months from January 2021 to June 2021 with a sample size of 103. The data was collected from all the geriatrics patients who are aged above 65 years. The collected data was evaluated using Beers criteria 2019. Out of 175 geriatric patients 103 medications were prescribed inappropriately, when compared with the Beers criteria. The most common inappropriate medications include CNS drugs (27%), Analgesics (17%), Gastro intestinal medications (12%), Diuretics (11%), Respiratory tract drugs (6%), Cardio vascular drugs and anti-emetic drugs (4%). Based on 5 different components of Beers criteria 2019, the Organ system/therapeutic category owns (47.50%) inappropriate medications, Disease or syndrome category includes (20.3%) PIMs. The drugs to be used with caution includes (9.7%), Drug interaction includes (19.4%), the drugs to be used according to renal function gives (2.9%) of total PIMs. This study pinpoints that prescribing medications as per Beers criteria can promote a better prescribing practices and older people can achieve good health status....
The study was conducted among the pharmacy students of JDT Islam College of Pharmacy. Self-medication is common in both developed and developing countries but higher in developing countries, due to wider increase of drug availability without prescription Self-medication increases the possibility of drug abuse and drug dependency. Cross sectional study was conducted to analyze the pharmacy student knowledge, attitude, practice of self-medication with antibiotics. A pre-validated structured questionnaire comprising of 20 questions were distributed among 248 Pharmacy students of JDT Islam College of Pharmacy from first year to final year. The questionnaire included the structured panels such as knowledge about antibiotic, their indication, side-effect, behavior, attitude about risk of self-medication with antibiotic, prevalence and reason for self-medication. From the survey reports, knowledge on the dosage form was obtained from the previous doctor’s prescription (35%), this knowledge not always will be curative in all disease condition. From this report it is clear that majority of the students (60%) are of the opinion that self-medication with antibiotic is not acceptable practice....
Cardiovascular diseases are a group of disorders of heart and blood vessels. It is a major health problem throughout the world and a common cause of early morbidity and mortality. The main objective of this study was to assess the prescribing pattern of cardiovascular drugs among the patients admitted at NMCH and RC. This cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted for a period of six months with a sample size of 120. Data was collected from the medical record department at a tertiary care teaching hospital. Out of 120 patients, 64 patients were male and 56 were female. Majority of patients were between the age group of 41- 50 years (23.33%). The hospital stay varied from 1-5 days and 59.16% of patients were having co-morbidity and 40.84% were without co-morbidity. Most of the patients were diagnosed with HTN (70.83%). The study concludes that effective strategies, regular monitoring must be implemented to improve the patient compliance and achieve a better outcome. It provides the baseline knowledge to find out the best treatment options and safe use of long term CVD drugs....
